Heart disease has been called the Silent Killer because it often has no noticeable symptoms. It's more deadly than all forms of cancer combined and it’s not just "an old man’s disease."
Since the first National Wear Red Day in 2003, we've made tremendous strides in the fight against heart disease in women. Through research and education on healthy lifestyle changes, we’re proud that:

Everywhere we go we hear the term "GMOs." Here is a brief explanation:
GMOs are organisms that have been created through the gene-splicing techniques of the biotech industry. GMOs are also know as genetically engineered, or GE. This new science became available in the mid-nineties. This science allows DNA from one species to be injected into another species in a laboratory, creating combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that do not occur in nature.
In the US, the FDA approved commercial production of GMO's based on studies conducted by the companies that created them and profit from their sale. I call this tobacco-science. Many enlightened people find the lack of rigorous,...

Spinal decompression can be a very effective treatment for disc injuries. This would include disc herniations, disc bulges, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis with or with out extremity pain.
At Banks Chiropractic and Wellness Center, in Huntington, NY we use the highest quality table on the market. The Antalgic Trak at our office is one of 25 in the country. This is the only Antalgic Trak in Suffolk County. After sampling several tables on the market including the DRX 9000 we chose the Antalgic Trak. The main reason is that it has a unique feature not found on any other table. We are able to put the patient into different therapeutic postures during our session. The posture that is painful under normal gravity conditions becomes therapeutic under decompression forces. By mobilizing the neck or lower back into different...

As many of you know I have a tremendous passion for helping patients reverse or prevent chronic disease of aging. I have been a practicing Chiropractor since 1982 and in 1995 I first heard Dr. Jeffrey Bland speak at a conference. From that moment on I knew that my education and direction of my practice would go in the direction of Functional Medicine. I recently completed and passed the rigorous certification program and can now use the title: Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner (IFMCP).
In order to sit for the exam and become certified I completed...

I have had the opportunity of listening to Dr. Houston many times over the last decade. He has helped increased my knowledge in the field of Cardiology. He is a good friend. Dr. Houston states that there is a strong relationship between gluten and metabolic syndrome. This will include vascular problems, endothelial dysfunction, coronary heart disease, etc.
The blood vessel has a infinite number of insults, but only three finite responses to the insults. The three finite responses are inflammation, oxidative stress, and vascular autoimmune dysfunction. Idiopathic cardio myopathy= swelling of the heart. This can reverse on a gluten free diet in gluten sensitive people.
In my practice for years I have always done the Advanced...

There was a recent article that created a media surge regarding the effects of fish oil supplementation on prostate cancer. This is not true. The subjects in this study were not supplemented with fish oil or on a high fish diet. This in itself means it is completely inappropriate to suggest that such would cause prostate cancer.

Gluten-free has become a very common phrase lately. Many people may be wondering what it is, why, and what we really need to know, so here it is.
Gluten is the protein fraction of most cereals, including wheat, rye, and barley. Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder, which affects genetically predisposed individuals upon the ingestion of gluten. Its prevalence has been underestimated, but it is now considered one of the most common genetic disorders. That gluten sensitivity is regarded, as principally a disease of the small bowel is a historical misconception (J Neurol Neurosurg Psychiatry 2002;72:560–563). Every time the disease is clinically diagnosed in an adult, that person has for decades had disease in a latent or silent stage (N England J Med Oct.23 2003,1673-4).
