There was a recent article that created a media surge regarding the effects of fish oil supplementation on prostate cancer. This is not true. The subjects in this study were not supplemented with fish oil or on a high fish diet. This in itself means it is completely inappropriate to suggest that such would cause prostate cancer.

gluten free dr scott banksGluten-free has become a very common phrase lately. Many people may be wondering what it is, why, and what we really need to know, so here it is.

Gluten is the protein fraction of most cereals, including wheat, rye, and barley. Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder, which affects genetically predisposed individuals upon the ingestion of gluten. Its prevalence has been underestimated, but it is now considered one of the most common genetic disorders. That gluten sensitivity is regarded, as principally a disease of the small bowel is a historical misconception (J Neurol Neurosurg Psychiatry 2002;72:560–563). Every time the disease is clinically diagnosed in an adult, that person has for decades had disease in a latent or silent stage (N England J Med Oct.23 2003,1673-4).

brain healthA few nights ago, we held a small lecture on about brain health, which has A LOT to do with overall health.

For those of you who missed it, we've put together some of the most important points from the night, along with some of the most recommended supplements to kick start your brain health into high gear!

Alzheimer's is a preventable disease of old age for which there is no cure! Alzheimer's isn't all genetics. It's about epigenetics: all the environmental effects expressed on your genetics. British journal of health found that cholinesterase inhibitors used to treat Alzheimer's have been found ineffective. Reduce inflammation. Inflammation causes heart, brain, digestive, and other diseases. Oxidative stress is damage to lipids, proteins, DNA & RNA. This causes the brain to deteriorate. Vitamin C and E are antioxidants that help reverse oxidative stress and reduce prevalence of Alzheimer's....

Suffer From Back Pain?

A possible solution could be Spinal Decompression Therapy, What’s that you say? Compress my spine? No not quite…

Chiropractic (chi·ro·prac·tic):  A system of therapy in which disease is considered the result of abnormal function of the nervous system. The method of treatment usually involves manipulation of the spinal column and other body structures.

According to Merriam-Webster, that is the definition of Chiropractic.  But it is so much more; it is a health care profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on general health

Functional medicine treats the person (patient) and not the “problem” (disease/issue). In addition, it provides a framework for the practice of medicine that uses all the tools of healing, both conventional and alternative, to address the whole person rather than an isolated set of symptoms.
